Two Rangers players said that they had played their final Premiership game against Celtic in anticipation of the Ibrox clearout.

A former Rangers striker thinks that following their most recent Old Firm loss, his former team has to make a major player exit during the summer transfer window.

After Rangers’ most recent Old Firm loss, Kris Boyd has spearheaded calls for a “fresh start” at Ibrox next season, announcing that the majority of Philippe Clement’s team will not face Celtic again.

Another depressing afternoon at Parkhead left the Light Blues nursing their wounds after a 2-1 loss to the current champions led by Brendan Rodgers all but ended their ambitions of winning the championship for another year.

And infuriated former Glasgow goalscorer Boyd believes that if Clement’s former team wants to ultimately stop Celtic from retaining their derby day supremacy in Glasgow, he will have to spearhead a summer player purge.

He acknowledged, “This was the same team that has been under-performing,” in a Sky Sports interview. In a few weeks, you have a cup final. Philippe Clement is very important to the team because he has now lost a few Old Firm games.

“During the beginning of the following season, you’re back here at Celtic Park. The reason the Scottish Cup Final is so important now is that you don’t want people to say, three, four, or five Old Firm games later, that Philippe Clement has lost.

“To be honest, while there is a Scottish Cup final in a few weeks, a lot of these guys’ league matches against Celtic will be their last ones. Clearing things out and starting again are necessary.

“Philippe Clement mentioned that it will be extremely challenging for certain players to alter his mind over the next few weeks. Taking a look at it, Lundstram and Barisic will depart, along with a few others.
