A 2024 trade proposal from the Packers sends an All-Pro wide receiver to Green Bay

Although there may not be a dire need for a wide receiver in the Green Bay Packers’ roster, one trade idea would transfer wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to give Jordan Love another weapon in 2024.

Ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, Sayre Bedinger of Dairyland Express suggested a few possible deals the Packers ought to make. Options included considering a trade for a wide receiver like Aiyuk as well as a move for an experienced backup quarterback like Zach Wilson or Trey Lance.

Bedinger also listed wide receiver Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals as a possible trade target. They mentioned that in order to get one of them, it might be worthwhile to trade Christian Watson and one of their top choices for either player.

“It could take Jordan Love to the next level,” Bedinger wrote. “The Packers have 11 picks in this year’s draft and who knows how they are going to fit 11 rookies on the roster? Trading one of their top three picks in this draft for Higgins or Aiyuk could be a great investment.”

Can Someone Trade Brandon Aiyuk?

There’s no assurance that the standout wideout will really be traded, even if the Packers were interested in pursuing Aiyuk.

Having had his fifth-year option selected by the San Francisco 49ers, Aiyuk is now in the final year of his rookie deal. In 2025, the 26-year-old will be a free agent without restrictions.

Aiyuk is now in the last year of his rookie contract when the San Francisco 49ers selected his fifth-year option. The 26-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent in 2025.

Over the past few seasons, Aiyuk has developed into a powerful wideout after showing early promise in his career. For the previous two years, Aiyuk has logged 33 games with 153 receptions for 2,357 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Now that he’s shown what he can accomplish in San Francisco, Aiyuk probably wants to be paid like a top receiver. The problem is that quarterback Brock Purdy will shortly be seeking a hefty contract extension of his own, and the 49ers are already substantially over the limit for 2025.

Given his responses to talks and the cap issue in San Francisco, it’s extremely possible that Aiyuk will be playing for a different team in 2024 or 2025.

There Is No Need for Another Wide Receiver by the Packers

General Manager Brian Gutekunst of the Packers has an abundance of resources at his disposal this summer. That does not imply that the team will pursue a different wide receiver.

The Packers showed outstanding progress all around even though they entered 2023 without an established veteran at the position. Love was able to spread the ball around consistently last season, even though no receiver had more than 800 yards.

With eight touchdowns in his second season, Romeo Doubs made significant progress, and youngsters Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks established themselves right away. At the end of the season, even former practice squad standout Bo Melton displayed glimpses of his potential, capped by a 105-yard performance against the Minnesota Vikings.

Christian Watson, who had a great first season, is another player the Packers are hope can stay healthy and return in 2024. The Packers could want to continue giving their developing playmakers more chances to prove their mettle this coming season, given their youth at the position and the production level throughout.
