Grayson Murray, a troubled golfer, died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning after filling his Florida townhouse with deadly exhaust gases, DailyMail.com can reveal. The 30-year-old two-time PGA Tour winner is thought to have left his Land Rover running in his ground-floor garage before heading upstairs while fumes filled the three-story Palm Beach Gardens home.

Murray, who has openly discussed his struggles with drink and mental illness, is believed to have died in the upstairs master bedroom. His relatives confirmed that his death was a suicide. ‘I thought it might be a kid revving a car. “I went outside to investigate, but there was no sound,” claimed the neighbour, who requested anonymity. ‘I later learned that he started the car in the garage and went upstairs. He went to sleep and did not wake up. People only found out when the CO alarm kept going off. A representative for the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department said that an investigation into Murray’s death was ongoing.

We are undertaking an investigation into what happened in our city,” he stated. Murray died a day after unexpectedly withdrawing from the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas. He had informed his playing companions that he was feeling ill. ‘We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the truth that our son is gone,’ his devastated parents, Eric and Terry Murray, wrote in a statement Sunday.

It’s weird that we have to admit it to ourselves as well as to the rest of the world. It is a nightmare. Murray had previously spoken about his struggles with melancholy and uncontrolled drinking, which caused him to drink throughout tournaments and play when hungover. He remembered fighting to get out of bed in the morning and labelling himself a failure despite being a youth golfing prodigy. He even claimed to having a drinking problem while seeking for membership at the prestigious Dye Preserve golf club in Jupiter, Florida, last autumn.

Club general manager Kurt Thompson told the Palm Beach Post ; ‘”Grayson was very forthcoming about his past challenges and his desire to turn a new leaf. He seemed so happy and excited with the path he was on.’ Over the past year he had turned things around, however, by getting sober, requalifying for the PGA Tour and winning January’s Sony Open, his first victory in seven years. He credited his family, and especially Christiana, for his career resurgence, telling reporters: ‘I have a beautiful fiancée now that I love so much and who’s so supportive of me. ‘It just makes everything so easy when I get out here inside the ropes when everyone in my circle is really pulling for me.

And they’re right there with me when I have those rough days, which I still have. But I feel much more at ease inside those ropes now. Murray and Christiana started dating in 2021 after meeting at the American Express Palm Springs tournament in Palm Springs, California.
