After rupturing his meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay, Brazil’s forward Neymar will be out for several months as he needs surgery, the Brazilian FA (CBF) announced.

In the 44th minute of the 2-0 loss, the 31-year-old went down following a tussle for the ball with Nicolas de la Cruz of Uruguay, clutching his left leg in anguish and begging for help as his teammates worriedly watched.

After receiving treatment for many minutes, Neymar—who joined with Al-Hilal in August—left the field in tears and was taken off the field on a stretcher. An MRI scan on Wednesday verified the injuries. “The striker will have surgery to treat the injuries at a later date. The Brazilian national team’s medical staff and Al Hilal are in regular communication and support the athlete’s recuperation, the CBF stated in a statement on Wednesday.

Injuries have plagued Neymar’s career. After suffering injuries to his right foot, he missed three extended periods of time while playing for his last team, Paris St. Germain.

He sustained a back injury at the World Cup 2014, which prevented him from playing in Germany’s 7-1 semifinal loss against Colombia in the quarterfinals.

In 2018, injuries again prevented him from winning the World Cup in Russia. Neymar’s right ankle sprained early in the year, affecting his foot’s fifth metatarsal.

So because of this Super start Neymar Jr will not be able to continue playing again
