Stunning Tsitsipas Leaves Injured Sinner Speechless During Monte-Carlo Masters Semifinal

After losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters semifinal, Jannik Sinner sustained an injury.

The only time the Italian has lost in 2024 was against the enchanted Carlos Alcaraz, who is nearly unbeatable in Indian Wells. Sinner had a difficult start to the match as the Greek player tried to be as irritating as possible.

It was effective as he broke Sinner early to take a 3-1 lead, and that would be the only break of the first set. As Sinner steadied his game and Tsitsipas concentrated on his serve, we saw not a single break point on either side, and the Greek won the opening set 6-4.

In the second set, there would be more excitement as Sinner’s strong play in the preceding games led to an early break and a commanding 3-0 lead. Both players blew break opportunities a few games later, which was especially frustrating for Tsitsipas, who wasn’t getting many opportunities.

Sinner held to win the second set 6-3, although he would gain a few more at 5-3. In Sinner’s final two service games of the second set, Tsitsipa would lose six break opportunities, which was too much to ask of a player who is perhaps the best in the world at the moment.

The world no. 2 would also have an early break to begin the final set. It was almost impossible for Tsitsipas to overcome his complete dominance. He made an effort and was assertive, but Sinner covered him just enough to prevent him from taking any chances.

Sinner, nevertheless, hurt himself in the last moments of the match, holding his leg and phoning the physio several times. Despite having a 4-2 lead in the third set, the Italian could not hold on.

After losing four straight matches, Tsitsipas kept up his incredible play to defeat Sinner 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to the Monte-Carlo Masters final and record his biggest victory of the 2024 season.
