While making jokes about his record at the Italian Open, Roger Federer recounted some of the best moments from his most recent trip to Rome.

Despite losing four finals in his storied career, the Swiss never took home the Italian Open title. Rafael Nadal defeated him in 2006 and 2013, Felix Mantilla in 2003, and Novak Djokovic in 2015.

Federer recently traveled to Rome, and he posted pictures from the trip to Instagram. The 42-year-old shared a number of photos in which he was seen enjoying real Italian cuisine, such as pasta with garlic bread and wine, using tennis courts, going to the Pantheon, and many other places.With a remark that made fun of his four final losses at the Italian Open, the 20-time Grand Slam champion also made fun of himself. He said that he had finally won Rome.

The Swiss announced his retirement from tennis during the Laver Cup in 2022. In his farewell match, he faced Team World’s Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe in a doubles match with longtime rival Rafael Nadal, although they ultimately lost.

Roger Federer is third on the list of most ATP Masters 1000 titles

Third among players with the most Masters 1000 championships ever is Roger Federer, after only Rafael Nadal (36) and Novak Djokovic (40).Over the course of his illustrious career, the Swiss has won 28 Masters 1000 championships, his first being in the 2002 Hamburg Open on clay. The 42-year-old owns the record for the most championships at the Cincinnati Masters and has won 22 of his 28 career titles on hard courts.The Italian Open and Monte-Carlo Masters, which the Swiss have reached four times each in the finals of, are the only Masters 1000 championships that have escaped them.

Roger Federer has won the Madrid Open thrice, thus being the only player to win the tournament on three different surfaces – hard-court in 2006, red clay in 2009, and blue clay in 2012.

The Swiss’ final Masters 1000 title came at the Miami Open in 2019, where he beat John Isner in the final. He thus became the oldest-ever Masters 1000 champion. That year, the 20-time Grand Slam champion also made his final Masters appearance at the Shanghai Masters, where he reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev
