Derrick Henry, an Alabama alum, is still unsure about his future, according to Titans general manager

INDIANAPOLIS: Derrick Henry, a former Alabama running back, has an uncertain but not entirely definite NFL career ahead of him.

Derrick Henry, a former running back for Alabama, was not selected by the Tennessee Titans with the franchise tag, as ESPN revealed the day before. General manager Ran Carthon and head coach Brian Callahan discussed Henry’s future with the media.

After being hired by the Titans in January, Callahan claims he has been in contact with the former Heisman Trophy winner during the winter and is positive going into talks.
Callahan stated, “I’ve reached out,” on Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. Although I know he will always hold the Titans close to his heart, I think we have a fantastic relationship and will continue to work through any issues that may arise. I am excited to get to know him and am aware of the significance he has for the city.

Despite knowing how much Henry means to the Titans and the city of Tennessee, Carthon, who is in his second season as the team’s general manager, is not let the circumstance get in the way of his goals.

Before agreeing to a $50 million four-year agreement, the Titans first placed Henry on the franchise tag in the 2020 offseason. If the Titans had used the franchise tag on Henry over the offseason, the running back would have signed a $11.951 million, one-year contract.

Although it doesn’t appear like either side is set on any course of action in discussions, the Titans’ decision not to use the tag on Henry this offseason may be a sign of their future intentions with the former Crimson Tide standout.
