The former offensive coordinator for FSU football has joined the Georgia Bulldogs’ staff.

Former Florida State football offensive coordinator James Coley has accepted the wide receivers coaching job at Georgia. He initially agreed to work for South Carolina in the same position but was led away to Athens.

Coley served under former Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher either as a grad assistant, position coach, or offensive coordinator in three separate stints (LSU, ’03-’04; FSU ’10-’12; TAMU, ’20-’23).

James Coley, a former offensive coordinator for Florida State football, has taken a position at Georgia as the wide receivers coach. He was taken to Athens after initially agreeing to work for South Carolina in the same capacity.

Coley worked for three different schools under former Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher: LSU from 2003 to 2004; FSU from 2010 to 2012; and TAMU from 20 to 23. He held the positions of graduate assistant, position coach, and offensive coordinator.

In 2008, Bobby Bowden also hired him as a recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach.
The offense led by Coley and Fisher averaged over 30 points and 360 yards per game in 2010 and 2011. But the real breakthrough occurred in 2012, when the ‘Noles averaged a ridiculous 470 yards and just under 40 points per game.

Furthermore, according to ESPN’s rankings, Coley’s recruiting prowess helped FSU land the top two recruiting classes in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Coley is in his second tenure with the Bulldogs, having previously worked under Kirby Smart as an associate head coach, offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach, and quarterbacks coach.

In 1997, the former Seminole OC earned his degree from Florida State. At any level, from high school to the NFL, he has never held the position of head coach.
