How we got here: Chelsea’s star signing was benched for the biggest game of the season.

The most frequent explanation for Chelsea’s struggles throughout the first half of the season was Christopher Nkunku’s absence. Every time the Blues’ troubles were questioned, it was brought up by supporters, analysts, and the manager equally.Even though he is now well and returned, he is unable to join the team.

Considering the build-up, this turn of events is somewhat unexpected. He appeared to be the ideal addition to improve our attack throughout the preseason, adding style and originality in between the lines in addition to being a goal threat. Mauricio Pochettino, though, is obviously not happy with what he has witnessed in the Frenchman’s little opportunities since Christmas.Although we’re confident he’ll get his opportunities again in the upcoming games, Pochettino would much rather start with the hustle and ingenuity of Cole Palmer, the pace and one-on-one skills of Raheem Sterling, and the industry of Nicolas Jackson. That was the case against Man City a week ago.

Nkunku is going to be waiting for his opportunity to enter the game as a substitute and take center stage.
