Louis Oosthuizen opened up about the likelihood of missing his first Masters since 2008 and acknowledged he’s come to terms with not playing major tournament golf any more.

The South African dropped from as high as the fourth spot in the world to 137th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The former Open champion’s choice to leave the organization and join the lucrative LIV Golf League is, of course, the reason for that decrease.

To arrive at Magnolia Lane one week before to the start of the 48th Masters, Oosthuizen would have to find a method to rank among the top 50 players in the OWGR.

“When I made the decision to join LIV Golf, I knew it was inevitable,” Oosthuizen told Gulf News ahead of this week’s International Series Oman.

Oosthuizen is one of a posse of LIV players who have made the trip to the Arabian Peninsula.

He continued: “I knew the day would come where I wasn’t able to play a tournament like Augusta

To tell the truth, I’m having trouble getting around that golf course at the moment because it’s so lengthy.

“Compared to 2009 and 2010, there are three irons and seven woods into the par-4 holes. It’s an amazing experience, therefore I’ll miss it.

“It’s a great golf course, a great tournament, but I honestly think the golf course is a little bit too long for me now anyway.”

Oosthuizen’s comments come as there has been renewed discontent amongst the LIV Golf ranks about their lack of recognition by the OWGR.

He said: “I sort of joined LIV Golf knowing that we weren’t going to get any World Ranking points, if you can even call it the World Rankings anymore.

“I made my peace with not playing in the majors, fortunately I can still play the Open, but it’s a shame to see great players not getting what they deserve and hopefully they (OWGR) can do something quickly about it.

“I think the whole system needs to change completely. If they don’t want to give us World Ranking points on LIV Golf then they should change the system where they give spots to Majors on each tour around the world or something like that.

“I’m surprised those guys have a lot more experience than me, sitting on boards and doing their things, that I can’t believe there’s no solution to it.”
