Breaking: Yamaha Unveils the 2026 YZ500 2-Stroke 70th Anniversary Edition in Stunning Golden Color, Celebrating 70 Years of Excellence

In a historic celebration of seven decades of two-wheeled innovation, racing heritage, and cutting-edge engineering, Yamaha Motor Corporation has officially announced the arrival of the 2026 Yamaha YZ500 2-Stroke 70th Anniversary Edition. Dressed in a stunning metallic golden finish, this limited-production dirt bike not only pays homage to the brand’s illustrious past but also sets a new benchmark for future off-road performance.

Unveiled earlier this week at a special launch event in Southern California, the 70th Anniversary YZ500 drew immediate attention with its dazzling golden bodywork — a nod to Yamaha’s status as a premium force in motocross history. From its classic “YAMAHA” tank logo to the sculpted silhouette, the YZ500 is both a visual celebration and a mechanical marvel, combining timeless aesthetics with modern two-stroke power.

 Honoring a Legacy of Performance

Yamaha first entered the off-road motorcycle market in 1955, and over the past 70 years, it has continuously pushed the limits of dirt bike performance. The YZ series, in particular, revolutionized motocross during the 1970s and 1980s. The introduction of the YZ250 and its subsequent dominance on the racetrack solidified Yamaha’s status as a world-class motocross innovator.

The new 2026 YZ500 2-Stroke is a symbolic successor to those earlier machines. While it boasts the unmistakable sound and raw power of a two-stroke engine that fans crave, it also incorporates decades of refined engineering. The 500cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine delivers blistering throttle response and torque across the rev range, making it a weapon on any motocross circuit or off-road trail.

A Golden Tribute: Aesthetic Meets Innovation

The standout feature of the 70th Edition is undoubtedly its  golden livery, specially crafted to reflect Yamaha’s 70-year milestone. Designed with a metallic gold and black color scheme, it strikes a balance between luxury and aggression. Polished black components, premium graphics, and commemorative “70th Anniversary” badging are scattered throughout the frame, tank, and swingarm.

“The golden YZ500 isn’t just a bike; it’s a tribute,” said Hiroshi Ito, Yamaha’s Global Motocross Division Manager. “It’s a thank-you to the fans, the racers, and the engineers who have been part of Yamaha’s journey since 1955.”

– State-of-the-Art Features

While the design honors the past, the technology under the frame is distinctly modern. Key features include:

All-new aluminum frame for reduced weight and increased torsional rigidity

KYB speed-sensitive front forks with updated valving for improved control

Fully adjustable rear suspension to handle any terrain

Hydraulic clutch** for smoother engagement and race-ready feedback

Electronic power valve system (YPVS) for optimized power delivery across RPMs

Lightweight titanium footpegs, handlebars, and exhaust components

Weighing just under 230 pounds, the YZ500 offers one of the most competitive power-to-weight ratios in its class.

 Limited Production & Global Rollout

Yamaha has confirmed that the 70th Anniversary Edition YZ500 will be produced in limited numbers, with only 1,955 units (a reference to Yamaha’s founding year) being distributed globally. Each unit will come with a numbered plaque, a commemorative certificate of authenticity, and exclusive 70th Anniversary riding gear options available through Yamaha dealers.

North American models will hit showrooms in late October 2025, with pricing starting at $12,999 USD. Pre-orders have already begun through Yamaha’s official website and authorized dealerships.

Racing Forward

Yamaha also announced that the new YZ500 70th Edition will make its professional racing debut in early 2026, with select riders in the MXGP and AMA Pro Motocross Championships showcasing the machine on the world stage.

As Yamaha continues its mission to innovate while honoring its roots, the 2026 YZ500 2-Stroke 70th Anniversary Edition stands as a golden icon — not just of motocross excellence, but of the spirit that has defined Yamaha for seven unforgettable decades.

“This is more than a motorcycle,” said Yamaha Racing veteran and AMA Hall of Famer Doug Dubach. “It’s a celebration of everything Yamaha has built — and everything it’s still capable of becoming.”
