Disgruntled Eagles veteran is obviously attempting to force his departure from Philadelphia before to the season
It looks like the veteran has left the Eagles. A contract issue with one of the team’s veterans has overshadowed the Philadelphia Eagles’ progress toward the beginning of their championship defense. It appears like Bryce Huff, a highly compensated defensive end, has missed more offseason workouts since the Eagles won another Super Bowl. Huff was not present for Tuesday’s OTAs in Philadelphia.
The former Memphis Tigers star has not participated in any of Philadelphia’s voluntary practices since they started in the spring, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Given that Huff’s 2025 contract is guaranteed to pay little over $16.7 million, the player, not the front office, has the majority of the leverage. Nothing is requiring Huff to be present because these sessions are voluntary and the team cannot penalize him for missing this time. The Eagles may benefit from Huff’s absence from the practice field given the terms of his contract.
The Eagles will earn some salary cap relief by selling Huff after June 1st, so it may be best for both parties if Howie Roseman can locate another team that is willing to work with Philadelphia’s front office. It looks like the writing is on the wall. Huff won’t be with Philadelphia for long because, after signing a three-year, $51 million contract, his time with the Eagles has fallen short of expectations. What Roseman and the rest of Philly’s intellectual team can come up with will have to wait.
