Breaking: Eagles back-to-back Super Bowl rusher hero Waves good bye to Philadelphia Eagles at OTAs

When the Philadelphia Eagles began Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Tuesday, they formally began their pursuit of back-to-back Super Bowl victories. The media was not allowed to attend Tuesday’s practice, but they were allowed to attend Wednesday’s. As a result, Eagles supporters received the first OTA attendance check. One significant player was absent, even though Philadelphia had nearly perfect attendance. Bleeding Green’s Brandon Lee Gowton reported that edge rusher Bryce Huff was not present. The Eagles supporters’ desire to see Huff leave the team is only strengthened by his absence.

Bryce Huff’s second year in Philadelphia is already off to a rough start. signed Huff to a three-year contract worth $51.1 million during the 2024 offseason. According to PFF, the 26-year-old had just finished a stellar season with the New York Jets, recording 29 tackles, 10 TFLs, 10 sacks, 67 quarterback pressures, 12 quarterback hits, and 45 quarterback hurries. Huff continued to enhance his output from his first three seasons, which culminated in his breakthrough performance in 2023. The Eagles signed him with the hopes that he would keep improving or at the very least be a top rotation player. Unfortunately, in 2024, he failed to meet both of the descriptions. Last season, Huff recorded 13 tackles, 20 QB pressures, 17 QB hurries, three TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and one QB hit.

Several other edge rushers, such as Josh Sweat and Nolan Smith, outperformed Huff. A significant drop in output like that is embarrassing following a season like the 26-year-old’s in 2023. In addition, Eagles supporters and the management probably hoped Huff would be back to his best in 2025 after losing players like Sweat and Milton Williams this summer. But it’s not a good start to miss what are probably the first two days of OTAs. It’s safe to assume that Huff wasn’t at practice on Tuesday, even though the public doesn’t know for sure. It’s reasonable to assume that Huff won’t make the Eagles’ 53-man roster at the start of the season if he keeps missing OTAs.
