The Toronto Maple Leafs confirmed on Tuesday that they have agreed to a one-year contract with forward Connor Dewar. The contract includes a cap hit of $1.18 million, and the agreement was reached before heading to arbitration.
Last season, Connor Dewar, who is 25 years old, played in 17 regular-season games for the Maple Leafs. During this time, he scored one goal and contributed four assists. Dewar typically played just under 13 minutes per game and was a consistent presence in Toronto’s bottom six forwards. Additionally, he played a role on the Leafs’ penalty kill, averaging 2 minutes and 23 seconds of ice time per game while shorthanded.
In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Connor Dewar played in six out of seven games in the first round against the Boston Bruins. During this series, he registered one assist and delivered 14 hits. Dewar was acquired by the Maple Leafs in a trade deadline deal with the Minnesota Wild, where Toronto sent a 2026 fourth-round pick and forward Dmitry Ovchinnikov to Minnesota in exchange. Originally drafted by the Wild in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Dewar spent parts of six seasons with the Minnesota franchise before joining the Maple Leafs.
Heading into the upcoming season in Toronto, Craig Berube has taken over behind the bench, and Connor Dewar will aim to make a strong impression on his new coach during training camp and preseason. With considerable internal competition among forwards on the Maple Leafs roster, Dewar will need to showcase his strong two-way skills and competitive edge to establish himself as a difficult player for opponents to face.
