Even four months after Pete Carroll left, the Seattle Seahawks are still adjusting to life with a new coaching staff.

Mike Macdonald and his new staff add lots of interest, but Carroll led the Seahawks for 14 years. Getting used to a new leadership style after such a long time can be difficult, especially for team veterans.

That principle applies to no one more than Tyler Lockett, the Seahawks’ longest-tenured receiver, who is entering his tenth season. During an appearance on Seattle Sports’ “Bump and Stacy” earlier this week, Lockett discussed the struggle of transitioning to the new coaching staff.

“It’s definitely a culture shock,” Lockett said. “People say you can learn a new habit in like 21 days. … Imagine learning the habit for 365 days times nine years. It’s one of those things where you really have to change a lot of different stuff, but there’s a lot of good stuff that comes with change as well

“I believe the most significant difference is in the relationships and understanding of the many sorts of coaching, as well as the style that each coach chooses to take. You just have to be able to learn it, adjust to it, and find that comfort, among other things. So obviously it’s different, but when you have spring football like this during OTAs, you can sort of smooth out the kinks.”

Lockett has developed into an underappreciated standout and fan favourite throughout his time in Seattle. He exceeded the 1,000-yard mark every season from 2019 to 2022, and while he broke that streak last season, he remained an important element of the offence, narrowly missing the century mark for the fifth year in a row. The 31-year-old Lockett has been the subject of numerous trade rumours, but with all he has done for the organisation, fans hope he can stay for the long haul and continue his outstanding career in the Pacific Northwest.
