The Buffalo Bills could assist Gable Steveson find a new professional path after the former highly rated WWE star was fired by the wrestling promotion.

On May 15, Syracuse.com reporter Ryan Talbot reported that the Bills paid a visit to Steveson, a former U.S. Olympic gold medalist who is attempting to get into the NFL. Steveson had previously had some interest from other clubs after being released by the WWE earlier this month, and Talbot claimed that the Bills are now in the mix.

Olympian Aims for Career in New Sport.

Steveson joined with WWE after winning heavyweight gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. His career began with some fanfare, but Steveson struggled to get momentum in the WWE. Though there were allegations that he had been on the rocks with the organisation, Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post remarked that the timing of his release was surprising because it left Steveson with no time to qualify for the Paris Olympics this summer.

The Bills had already expressed interest in Steveson, as the wrestler told Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso in August 2021 that he had visited with one of the team’s scouts. “So many great organisations and teams have reached out,” Steveson remarked. “A scout from the Bills has a relationship to the Ravens. The Olympic gold medal has helped me see the globe, therefore my next step will be a major decision. I’m going to decompress and think about it.”

Bills Leave No Stone Unturned

It was not clear what position the Bills might envision for the 6-foot-1, 285-pound Steveson, but the team has not shied away from taking a look at athletes outside the sport of football. The team used a seventh-round draft pick on Travis Clayton, a boxing and rugby standout from England looking to break into the NFL.

Clayton is a member of the International Player Pathway Programme, and he feels his size and skill will translate well in the NFL. “With football, I love the physical side of things,” said Clayton, a 6-foot-7, 301-pound offensive line prospect. “Being on the offensive line, being able to legally vent your rage on others, is fantastic. It’s great. “I can simply apply my strength to my abilities.”

The Bills also extended a rookie minicamp invite to Zed Williams, a professional lacrosse player who graduated from nearby Silver Creek High School. Williams, who spent time at linebacker and tight end at the minicamp, said it was his first football experience since high school.

“Any opportunity to play a sport is a blessing. The ability to run around is a blessing. Williams told Spectrum News, “I am very blessed and excited to be here.” “I still have a lot to learn. To be honest, I have not played football since I was in high school. As you are aware, I have previously participated in lacrosse. So there’s still a lot to catch up on and learn. [I’m] just trying to learn as quickly as I can.
