Wilson’s previous head coach will have Week 2 circled.

It’s no secret that Russell Wilson’s relationship with the Denver Broncos did not end well. The Super Bowl-winning quarterback and head coach fell out during the season, to the point that Wilson was benched, with allegations of behind-the-scenes contract negotiations turning heated as Wilson refused to waive the money owing to him.

The Broncos released Wilson, leaving them with almost $80 million in dead cap space over the next two seasons.

Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers will pay a visit to Denver in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season, and former NFL quarterback and pundit Chris Simms believes Sean Payton will be motivated by a desire to exact revenge on his former QB.

Sean Payton is going to want to make a point there and say, ‘Wait, I’m not gonna let the guy that I squandered all this salary cap on, moved on from, and had to waste all this time talking about and blah, blah, blah,'” Simms added. “I don’t want him to come in here and win the game.” I know Sean Payton. He is a chippy. He’s not going to want that.

Pittsburgh will play two “revenge games” to start the season, first against Arthur Smith’s previous team, the Atlanta Falcons, and then at Mile High in Week 2.
