As the Green Bay Packers prepare for the upcoming 2024 NFL season, many believe that they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Following an impressive run to the playoffs last season after trading Aaron Rodgers, the hype is rising surrounding the proud franchise. Jordan Love is expected to take another big step to join the NFL’s elite quarterbacks and the roster as a whole is young and expected to develop nicely.
Looking at the Packers’ roster, it’s hard to see many weaknesses. Brian Gutekunst and the front office have built things nicely and added a lot of great young talent in the 2024 NFL Draft as well.
Pro Football Focus recently identified the team’s most underappreciated player going into the 2024 NFL season. It is, predictably, one of Love’s primary targets.
2024’s Most Underappreciated Player for the Green Bay Packers disclosed
The team’s most underappreciated player is Virginia wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, a second-year player. This is what Pro Football Focus thought about their selection.
Given the young and developing nature of the Packers offense, there are a number of contenders for this position, but Dontayvion Wicks, a second-year receiver, was Green Bay’s highest-graded receiver in 2023 (77.8). Towards the end of the season, the youngster was doing well; from Week 11 onward, he received an 83.6 PFF overall grade, good for 10th place among wide receivers. He was second among all wide receivers in 2023 with 95.1% of his catchable targets being completed.
Nobody could dispute the PFF team’s excellent decision in this instance. In the 2023 NFL Draft, Wicks was undoubtedly a sleeper choice, and he did not let anyone down.
Wicks ended up collecting 39 catches for 581 yards and four touchdowns during the 2023 NFL season. At the end of the year, he really got going. In 2024, Green Bay Packers supporters can anticipate seeing an even more developed wide receiver.
