Borussia Mönchengladbachs Sportdirektor Roland Virkus hat erklärt, dass es für das Team „schwierig“ sei, eine Einigung mit Leeds United hinsichtlich des Verteidigers Max Wober zu erzielen.
Wober, der im Januar von Red Bull Salzburg zu Leeds United wechselte, verließ Elland Road im vergangenen Sommer auf Leihbasis für eine Saison in die Bundesliga, nachdem der Verein in die Championship abgestiegen war.
Der österreichische Verteidiger hat in dieser Saison 26 Einsätze in allen Wettbewerben für Mönchengladbach absolviert, sodass der Bundesliga-Klub bestrebt ist, eine Einigung mit dem aufstiegshungrigen Leeds zu erzielen, um Wober dauerhaft zu verpflichten.
Virkus hat jedoch zugegeben, dass Leeds sich weigert, von seiner Einschätzung Wobers abzurücken, und derzeit eine starke Position in den Verhandlungen hält, da es im Rahmen des Saison-Leihvertrags keine Kaufoption gibt.
„In letzter Zeit gab es keine Gespräche, weil Leeds nicht wechselt“, sagte Virkus dem Kicker. „Wenn wir keine Einigung mit Leeds erzielen, wird es schwierig, weiterzukommen. Im Moment sind die Zahlen einfach ziemlich hoch.“
Wober, der bis 2027 in Elland Road unter Vertrag steht, gab kürzlich zu, dass er „neugierig“ auf seine Zukunft sei. Gegenüber Bild sagte er: „Von Gladbach habe ich schon länger nichts mehr gehört, sie planen auch gerade den Kader für die nächste Saison.
„Ich bin gespannt, ob jemand aus Gladbach zu mir kommt – oder auch aus Leeds. Noch hat niemand mit mir gesprochen. Leeds steckt mitten im Aufstiegskampf, sie haben im Moment Besseres zu tun, als mit ihren Leihspielern über deren Zukunft zu sprechen.“

Borussia Monchengladbach sports director Roland Virkus has stated that the team is finding it “difficult” to reach an agreement with Leeds United for defender Max Wober.
Wober, who joined Leeds United from Red Bull Salzburg in January, left Elland Road on a season-long loan to the Bundesliga last summer following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
The Austrian defender has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Monchengladbach this season, leaving the Bundesliga club eager to reach an agreement with promotion-chasing Leeds to recruit Wober on a permanent basis.
However, Virkus has admitted that Leeds are refusing to budge from their valuation of Wober and currently hold a strong hand in negotiations due to there being no purchase option in the season-long loan deal.
“There have been no discussions recently because Leeds are not moving,” Virkus told Kicker. “If we don’t reach an agreement with Leeds, then it will be difficult to progress. At the moment, it is just that the numbers are quite high.”
Wober, who is contracted at Elland Road until 2027, recently admitted that he is ‘curious’ about his future. He told Bild: “I haven’t heard from Gladbach in a while, they will also be squad planning for next season.
“I’m curious whether anyone from Gladbach will come to me – or from Leeds too. Nobody has talked to me yet Leeds are in the middle of a promotion fight, they have better things to do at the moment than talking to their loan players about their future.”
