Ludvig Aberg shows why he’s been tipped by Rory McIlroy to be world No 1

Even though Ludvig Aberg made the golf world sit up and pay notice in the 88th Masters, he would eventually realize that it wasn’t a wise idea to be aggressive with his approach shot at Augusta National’s 11th hole in the final round.

It was difficult to believe that the 24-year-old Swede was playing in his first major tournament, but he is a future superstar, as evidenced by his victories on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour since turning pro in June of last year.

With a swing and temperament to die for, Aberg, who finished as Scottie Scheffler’s closest rival in Georgia and was breathing down his neck before running up a double-bogey 6 at the 11th, handled the biggest test of his career so far with ease and appears destined to win multiple majors as well.

He described the week as “quite surreal to actually have the opportunity to experience what I have been wanting to do for such a long time.” “But I’m really proud of myself, my family, my teammates, and everyone else involved.”

Aberg, who is coached by Peter Hanson, a former Ryder Cup player and member of the DP World Tour, will now be heavily favored in the PGA Championship at Valhalla next month. After that, he will compete in the US Open at Pinehurst and the 152nd Open at Royal Troon.

Regarding his objectives, he remarked, “Everyone in my position, they are going to want to be major champions.” They will aspire to be the best in the world, and I feel the same way. Nothing will change in that regard. That hasn’t changed because I picked up a golf club; it’s always been that way. Thus, I believe that this week has confirmed a lot of those things; all we need to do now is maintain doing them and position ourselves to win competitions.

The former amateur world number one is destined to be in the same position in the professional game one day, according to his Ryder Cup teammates Rory McIlroy, who moved up two spots to seventh in the rankings on the strength of his eye catching effort.

“Well, it’s quite complimentary,” he remarked. They are quite kind to say those things. It’s not necessary for them to mention that. However, it simply indicates to me that my team and I are making progress and that things won’t likely alter all that much. However, it is undoubtedly very, very heartening to hear those things from Rory and other guys.
