Amidst the collapse of the LIV Golf star, Dustin Johnson is humiliated at the Masters.
Dustin Johnson, a golfer for LIV, missed the cut at 13 over par in the 2020 Masters at Augusta National, unable to duplicate his amazing performance.
Dustin Johnson’s dismal performance at the 2024 Masters stood in sharp contrast to his incredible 2020 Augusta success.
The 39-year-old missed the cut and was eliminated from the competition sooner than anticipated after finishing the thirteenth week over par. Johnson just had one of his most memorable days ever at Augusta, breaking the record for the lowest score over 72 holes at the Masters with 268 (-20). The previous record at the Masters was shared by Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth, who shot 270 in 1997 and 2015, respectively.
For the first time in his career, Johnson was given the green jacket after defeating Cameron Smith and Sungjae Im with 273, the eighth-lowest score at the Masters. The two-time major winner came into the Masters hoping to repeat his 2020 performance at the prestigious competition.
He told reporters last month, “Obviously, I was playing very well, and you know that week I played very well all four days, but I see signs of it.” The game seems to be moving in that direction, in my opinion. Am I in the exact same place? Regaining my previous level of play from that week will be challenging. Can I play well enough now, though, to be able to enjoy a week like that? Indeed. Following his impressive performance at the 2020 Masters, Johnson left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf. He was able to commit to training more since the Saudi-backed league had a more constrained schedule than the PGA Tour.
Every year, I train in the same manner. You may go a little heavier in the off-season,” he stated. “You know, being at home is lovely. And of course, I take [my trainer] with me almost everywhere. As a result, we primarily workout at home and on the road. That being said, having the time to [workout] is good. There are body sections that require more care and attention than others. Following a lackluster performance at the 2023 Masters, Johnson arrived at Augusta this year with a more resolute work ethic and a stronger drive for success.
He admitted, “I didn’t play nearly as well as I’d like to.” “But obviously, getting off to a slightly better start [will help] this year.” The game seems to be in extremely fantastic shape. I’ll be honest; I’m working a little harder. Simply put, I wasn’t happy with my outcomes. The most important thing, in my opinion, is to put in the work. I simply wasn’t satisfied with my performance. I’m thus putting in a little bit more effort this year. Regretfully, Johnson’s extra effort and planning didn’t appear to be worthwhile before the Masters. With just one birdie in 36 holes, he concluded Thursday and Friday with scores of 78 and 79, respectively.
Johnson’s Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) plummeted to No. 336 after he defected to LIV Golf. The majority of analysts still consider him to be among the best players in the sport, therefore his harsh standing is hardly a fair reflection of his skill
