Since the Denver Broncos won the 2016 Super Bowl, there hasn’t been much for fans to rejoice over.

One blogger has a trade suggestion that would give head coach Sean Payton “the saddest QB room of all-time” in order to address persistent concerns at quarterback.

FanSided’s John Buhler suggested that the Broncos trade Zach Wilson to the New York Jets in exchange for wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

In this scenario, the Broncos would also receive a 2025 sixth-round pick and a 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 111 overall). Considering that Denver “needs draft capital so badly,” Buhler justified the decision.

In an email dated March 30, Buhler stated, “From Denver’s perspective, you are not just getting Wilson over on an expiring deal ahead of what will almost certainly be another lost year for the franchise.” “But the Jets are also giving you two picks.” Not only do you have a failing former BYU quarterback, but you also have something else in addition to a fourth-round pick this year and a sixth-round pick in 2026.

In the 2021 NFL Draft, New York selected Wilson second overall out of BYU. In 34 career games, Wilson has completed 57% of his throws with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. Even though parting with Sutton would be difficult, Buhler contended that the move would be essential for the Broncos’ future.

Denver should continue to sell off high-priced assets in favor of draft capital. If they do this rebuild right, the Broncos could be a force to be reckoned with by 2028 or something, maybe sooner,” Buhler wrote.

NFL Analyst Lists Broncos as a Fit for QB Zach Wilson

In the NFL draft of 2024, the Broncos have the option to select a quarterback with the No. 12 pick. It is logical to think that Payton and company, including Wilson, should consider every alternative. Denver was mentioned by NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks as a potential destination for Wilson following the season.

“Despite the fact that the Broncos’ total talent level is now lacking, Brooks noted in his essay from March 29. “Courtenay Sutton’s presence, an emerging ground game, and a football-based playing philosophy centered around complementary football could lessen the pressure on the young quarterback to lead the team.”

Wilson would have Josh Reynolds, Tim Patrick, Marvin Mims Jr., and free agency acquisition Josh Reynolds to throw to in addition to Sutton. Leading the way in the team’s promising run game are Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin. According to Brooks, if Wilson could handle Payton’s “hard-nosed coaching,” then this trade might make sense.

Under an offensive-minded coach who knows the position and how to capitalize on his quarterback’s strengths, Wilson might reach his full potential, according to Brooks.

Will Zach Wilson End Up in the Mile High City?

Russell Wilson was released on March 13, leaving Jarrett Stidham as the probable starter for the Broncos. Ben DiNucci as a backup and Stidham are Payton’s only alternatives behind center. Denver has made an attempt to acquire a quarterback this summer, but they have not been successful.

Wilson was one of the choices the Broncos discussed, according to a March 11 report from NFL on CBS insider Jonathan Jones. Wilson’s addition would not be well received by a fan base that has seen little success since the 2015 campaign. The Broncos have lost seven straight seasons and have not made it to the postseason in eight of those years.
