The sixteen-year-old veteran is preparing for what might be his final Major League Baseball season.
As they approach 2024, the Atlanta Braves have a fantastic blend of young and experienced players. Observing the team’s remarkable growth over the past few years has been amazing.
Fortunately, Charlie Morton has shared in that success and, when healthy and on the mound, has been a huge asset to the team. He played a significant role in the Braves’ 2021 World Series run and victory. He came back from that series with a broken leg, but otherwise he was the same.
Uncle Charlie’s 2022 campaign was somewhat uneven; he ended with an ERA of 4.34, one full point higher than the season before. He faced some unique difficulties in 2023, but overall, he had a fantastic season.

Morton had a 3.64 ERA in 163.1 innings pitched for the Braves in 2023, which was a respectable performance. With a record of 14–12, 66 earned runs allowed, 83 walks, and 183 strikeouts, he concluded his career.
Additionally, the strikeout total of less than 200 looks reasonable. In 2021 and 2022, Morton exceeded the 200 strikeout threshold; however, it was surpassed last season. It wouldn’t take him long to get back there. He will record more than 2,000 strikeouts in his career if he strikes out the 171 batters expected this year.
During the last month, he pitched 15.2 innings, and his Spring statistics were respectable. With seven walks, seventeen strikeouts, and 12 hits and five earned runs allowed, that was good enough for a 2.87 ERA. He still has one of the greatest curveballs in all of baseball. It appears quite sharp.
As Spencer Strider strives to perfect adding a curveball to his arsenal, maybe he will impart some of his knowledge on the subject.
Pitching in his final season in Major League Baseball, Morton may be delighted that he gets the opportunity to finish in the location where it all started for him in 2008 and with another World Series. Charlie has just the best wishes for this year from us.
