On Monday, the Braves revealed a few significant changes to their Spring roster.

Opening Day is in two weeks, so spring training is going rather quickly. With a few exceptions, the Braves have gotten almost what they anticipated from their roster.

With the roster narrowed down to the final 26, position battles are finally starting to get resolved. We have roster updates, some concerning injuries, and the Braves Opening Day starting lineup.

The Atlanta Braves designate a fifth starter and option two pitchers to Triple-A.

The Braves announced earlier today that Huascar Ynoa and Bryce Elder had been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. The decision revealed to the supporters who would start for Atlanta as their fifth player.

Bryce Elder, who has an 8.25 ERA in 4 starts, had a very difficult spring. He gave up 11 runs on 15 hits, six walks, and 13 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched. For Bryce, walks have been a major killer, so he needs to get better at them.

The good news is that he has an option, so he can work on those issues and maybe make his way back to the MLB roster in the event that he is called upon.

This indicates that Reynaldo Lopez will serve as the beginning rotation’s last pitcher for the time being. With a 2.16 ERA over 16.2 innings pitched this spring, Lopez has had some success with four runs allowed on ten hits, six walks, and thirteen strikeouts.

His velocity suggests that the team is still getting him warmed up to start games; his fastball velocity has been in the 94 mph level, but as the games have gone on, he has increased to 96 mph. Since he hovered around that velocity three years ago as a starter, there is no reason to be concerned about this.

We will see how Lopez does in the role for the time being and if things go south he can be moved to the bullpen and that could re-open the door for Elder.

The Braves Opening Day roster is primarily determined by roster reassignments.

The Braves revealed today that they had transferred seven players to minor league camp, as if the news about Elder wasn’t enough. Among them were a few players who might have made the Opening Day roster.

Penn Murfee and Angel Perdomo are two of the 28 players still on Atlanta’s roster who are in camp. They are anticipated to be added to the IL prior to the start of the season, both of them still recovering from injuries. In other words, the Braves’ 26-man roster is complete.

Eli White, Luke Williams, and David Fletcher have all been playing well this spring and have a good chance of making the squad. Before the Braves signed Adam Duvall, Williams and White were vying with Forrest Wall for the backup outfield position. With his speed on the basepaths, Wall seems like the appropriate player to have on the MLB roster.

Fletcher was given a chance to fill the backup infield position, but it makes logical that Atlanta prefers Luis Guillorme. Fletcher looked quite solid at the plate with a.324 average over 37 at-bats, including 13 hits, three RBI, three walks, and three strikeouts. The Braves had originally planned for him to spend time at Triple-A to work on his swing.

Guillorme provides Atlanta with a strong backup defense as well as a left-handed hitter off the bench. Despite having only 18 at-bats this spring, he has a.278 average, five hits, and two RBI.

Now that the split-squad games are done, the Braves regulars will begin to settle into a regular season schedule and play practically every day. It is amazing that regular season baseball is almost here.

Injury Updates for Orlando Arcia and Ronald Acuña Jr.

Shortstop Orlando Arcia was hit in the hand by a pitch on Sunday, giving the Braves a scare. After negative results from his X-rays, Arcia is currently classified as day-to-day. The shortstop for Atlanta underwent an MRI to rule out a fracture, and the results showed that he did not.

Arcia had a similar situation in the start of the previous season when a pitch struck him, but the results of the X-rays were negative. After a few days, a microfracture was discovered, causing him to miss little under a month of play. I hope this MRI results in nothing more being found.

Braves supporters should also feel secure about Ronald Acuña Jr.’s comeback to the field following his scare, as he has been playing well and hasn’t had any problems since Sunday. He was a good base runner and even made a flawless sliding catch in the outfield.

Acuña also ran well on the bases on Monday, scoring a run and completing an inning with a great running catch.

Seeing this in the run-up to Opening Day is promising. As long as he stays healthy, Acuña is ready for another season that deserves MVP recognition.

This concludes the current updates; we will provide any fresh information when it becomes available. The Atlanta Braves are getting closer to the regular season, and we hope that excitement has spread to you as well. It seems like the squad will have an exceptionally memorable one.
