On Tuesday, the Warriors will reevaluate Steph Curry’s sprained ankle.

Fans of the Golden State Warriors held their breath in unison on Thursday night as they watched superstar point guard Steph Curry hobble off the court due to yet another ankle injury. They may now, thankfully, breathe a sigh of relief as the team’s official PR account revealed that Curry will undergo another evaluation on Tuesday of next week. This brief update raises the possibility that the injury may not be as serious as the team first believed.

Curry landed awkwardly during a drive to the basket late in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bulls. Curry has a well-known history of ankle ailments. He hobbled off the floor and did not come back, and the Warriors lost the game 125-122 in the final seconds.

Following the game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr admitted to the media that he didn’t know for sure how Curry was doing, only that they had iced his sprained ankle in the locker room. The first inkling of positive news came on Friday, when Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that an MRI revealed no evidence of structural damage. That combined with the announcement on Saturday of a reevaluation on Tuesday suggests that Curry is rapidly improving and may make a comeback shortly.

That being said, he will still be sidelined for at least the next two games, which are against the Spurs of San Antonio. Following that, the Warriors have two crucial games: on Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks and on Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors’ 1.5-game deficit to both clubs in the Western Conference rankings makes Curry’s comeback all the more noteworthy for the upcoming week.
