This offseason may be getting a little repetitive for followers of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Through the second half of January and all of February, pundits connected the team to numerous quarterbacks. The most popular choices have been Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

If the Steelers are interested in either, though, they first have to see if those quarterback’s current organizations are ready to depart with them.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton implied while speaking to the media on February 27 that their decision on Wilson will happen sooner rather than later.

Here, we go over the combine week. We’ll be meeting with ownership on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, I believe. According to Pro Football Talk’s Myles Simmons, Payton told reporters at the NFL combine on February 27 that “I expect that we’re going to know fairly quickly.” There are a few variables at play here. The cap projections were evidently realized. The draft class and the pro free agents are certainly further along the path.

Thus, I would expect it in the upcoming two weeks.

NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks said that if Wilson joined the Steelers, he would play at a level worthy of a championship, similar to what he had shown previously in his career.

With the proper team, he can be a quarterback worthy of a championship. However, it won’t be his fault, according to Brooks. It will be as a result of him operating the bus. He’s taking on a supervisory position. Russell Wilson is worth something. He has a lengthy history in this league. He performed at a very good level.

“And although the past two years haven’t gone as planned, he wasn’t a total failure last year.”

Wilson didn’t return to being a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback last fall after an awful 2022 campaign. However, he did had a 66.4% completion rate and threw 26 touchdowns against just 8 interceptions.
