DeMarcus Cousins, a former NBA player, is hoping that the Atlanta Hawks move Trae Young to the San Antonio Spurs this summer.

NBA insider Marc Stein claims that the Hawks “know” they must move either Dejounte Murray or Young this summer. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group represents both All-Stars.

According to NBA source Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Hawks “highly likely” will trade Young at the end of this season. In August 2021, Young agreed to a $215 million, five-year contract deal with the Hawks. Next season, he will earn $43 million, and in 2025–2026, $45 million.

Many in the NBA think that Young would like to play alongside Victor Wembanyama of the Spurs. However, Young’s contract lacks a no-trade clause, so if the Hawks decide to move him, he won’t be able to choose where he gets sent.

Young is shooting 42.6% from the field, 37.1% from outside the arc, and 85.6% from the free-throw line this season while averaging 26.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 10.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks. In 51 games, he has 35 double-doubles.

This season, the 25-year-old Young is leading the NBA in assists and second in assists per game. He is also ranked 12th in points and 11th in points per game. He will lose about four weeks of work following surgery on his left hand’s fifth finger.

Young, a three-time All-Star, has averaged 25.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 9.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.2 blocks over his career. He is among the NBA’s best offensive point guards.

Given that Young, a native of Texas, shares an agent with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers will be strongly associated with him. Last year, Young went to two Lakers playoff games.
