Basketball player Mohamed Wague of Alabama is suspended by the SEC for one game.

The SEC suspended Mohamed Wague, a men’s basketball player for Alabama, on Thursday in advance of his game against Kentucky on Saturday.

In the first half of Wednesday’s game in Tuscaloosa, Wague elbowed Florida forward Alex Condon in the back of the head as Condon recovered a loose ball. This resulted in a one-game penalty.

Alabama coach Nate Oats issued a statement saying, “We received the discipline for Mo from the SEC and agree with the suspension.” “After reviewing the film, the penalty is understandable and appropriate.”

According to the conference, Wague engaged in a “fighting act” as that term is defined by the NCAA. It further states that when a player engages in a fight, which is defined as “a confrontation involving one or more players, coaches or other team personnel wherein (but not limited to) a fist, hand, arm, foot, knee or leg is used to combatively strike the other individual,” they will be suspended for the following regular-season game.

When the play came up with 9:25 left in the first half, Condon was flagged for a foul, but Wague was not. Alabama prevailed in overtime, 98-93.

After starting eight games this season, West Virginia native Wague, a junior transfer, has primarily played off the bench in SEC play. In the ten minutes he plays each game, he averages 4.0 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Wague only saw three minutes of action on Wednesday, all of which came in the first half.
