It’s fascinating to note that the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers will be starting the 2024 season in comparable circumstances. In the wild card round, both teams were victorious. It so happened that both teams were defeated in the divisional round. Still, both Houston and Green Bay are very optimistic about their futures, particularly with regard to the quarterback position.
The Houston Texans May Get Their Standout Defensive Back from the Green Bay Packers
The following reasons why Wendell Ferreira of A to Z Sports believes that Houston would benefit greatly from this move:
Right present, the only cornerbacks with Texans contracts through 2024 are Derek Stingley Jr. and former Packer Ka’dar Hollman. Although Ballentine wouldn’t be the best starter, he did shown in 2023 with the Packers that he could be a valuable replacement-level player.
Due to injuries in the secondary, Ballentine played a career-high 463 defensive snaps for the Packers in 2023, including six starts. He only saw three defensive snaps against the 49ers in the divisional round. He will search for a depth job as a free agent throughout the offseason.
It would be shocking to see the Packers let Ballentine go without attempting to re-sign him given the doubts surrounding the secondary heading into the 2024 campaign. It is also improbable that the Packers and another team will engage in a bidding war. I don’t think Ballentine could turn down a big contract offer from Houston (given his role).
